Laurina, or “Bourbon Pointu” is a rare varietal from the Reunion Islands of small, pointy beans that usually present a lower caffeine amount than other Arabica varietals. This microlot was processed with a anaerobic fermentation technique that enhanced the acidity, making it sparkling with notes of pineapple, red apple, with brown sugar sweetness.

Roaster's Notes

I first tasted Laurina from Daterra back in 2018, and I’ve been in love with this coffee ever since. Because of the low caffeine content and the process from the farm, it is very tricky to roast this coffee since the beans are very small with a pointy shape and do not behave like other coffees inside the roasting machine. It is the definition of do not judge the book by its cover. Those tiny little beans that look very different from each other when combined create flavors like pineapple, malic acidity like red apple, beautiful brown sugar sweetness, and a medium-low velvety body. Perfect for flat bottom pour-overs or infusion brew methods and my favorite kind of coffee to drink in the late afternoon when I don’t need caffeine to keep me going.
